Oaklands Historic House Museum
An elegant mansion caught in the crossfire of the Civil War – This nationally registered, historic landmark reflects a time of prosperity in the Old South, as well as the hardships suffered during the Civil War.
Oaklands is the premier Italianate house in Rutherford county, and is listed individually on the National Register of Historic Places both for its architectural significance and its rich historical associations. The only historic house museum in Murfreesboro, Oaklands has been featured in many publications and is the subject of several major studies and reports. 
Today, Oaklands Historic House Museum welcomes several thousand visitors each year, including special tour groups, school children from Rutherford and surrounding counties, and people from many states and foreign countries.
Educational Programs
“A Day of Washing, Churning, and Learning”
Bring your students for a day of 1860’s hands on activities, chores, games, and crafts. Children will be able to wash clothes, churn butter, dip candles, dress-up, write with quill pens, make dolls, explore camp life for soldiers, and more. 
Rental Facilities Available
Oaklands Historic House Museum grounds and visitor center are available for private functions AFTER 3:00 P.M. The grounds may be available during museum hours with approval of Oaklands Historic House Museum. By hosting/participating in an event at Oaklands, you and your guests have given permission for any photographs or videos taken to be used in Oaklands publications.
Oaklands Association Membership
History is brought to life every day at Oaklands Historic House Museum. Visitors to Oaklands experience life at an 1860s plantation home, and leave with a deeper appreciation and knowledge of antebellum Middle Tennessee. The main objective of the museum is to provide visitors of all ages with an opportunity to learn about and appreciate the important history of Oaklands and of the community of Murfreesboro.
