Mission statement Preserve-Educate-Honor The Tennessee Museum of Aviation and Tennessee Aviation Hall of Fame are dedicated to the preservation of aviation history, including the aviation history of Tennessee; to the advancement of aviation education and to honoring those who have made significant contributions to aviation and aerospace for Tennessee, our nation or the world. The Tennessee Museum of Aviation occupies a new 50,000 sq. ft. facility located right beside the airport's 5,500 ft. runway. This unique location makes bringing aviation history to life possible as airworthy vintage aircraft perform impromptu flybys for visitors. The hangar floor alone is 35,000 sq. ft. and the hangar is heated in winter. Browse the museum's air-conditioned artifacts gallery that traces aviation history from before the Wright Brothers. See the Gen. Jimmy Doolittle Medal of Honor, thousands of historic artifacts and Tennessee's Aviation Hall of Fame. Historic aircraft on tour frequently visit the museum. Some provide visitors with walk-through tours as well as a way to ride along on a historic flight. Two Warbird Weekend events each year attract lots of visiting airplanes providing extraordinary photo opportunities and exciting formation flybys. The FLYING SPIRIT GIFT GALLERY is packed with aviation books, art, gifts and souvenirs. This is probably the largest and most unusual selection of aviation memorabilia in the Southeast. Aviation Education - Our Mission and Purpose The Tennessee Museum of Aviation is an educational institution. A basic part of its mission and purpose is the advancement of aviation education among all ages.
