Nashville Opera
In September 1997, Nashville Opera merged with Tennessee Opera Theatre and the Nashville Opera Guild becoming the regions only opera organization, the Nashville Opera Association. In a typical season, the Opera produces four main-stage performances and a six week tour to area schools, holds a three-month residency Young Artist Program for young professional singers and conducts numerous community outreach programs. Governed by a 43 member Board of Directors and a 20 member Advisory Board, the Opera has a staff of eleven full-time and four part-time employees and a 300-member volunteer Guild. Nashville Opera Association is proud to be the largest opera company in Tennessee and one of the fastest growing opera companies in the nation. Nashville Opera’s extensive education and outreach touring program reaches an additional 25,000 students in 18 counties in Middle Tennessee: - In Your School. Expose your students to opera and the arts without leaving your campus. We’ll come to you! With programs serving Pre-K to College, there’s something for every grade. - At the Theatre. Let your students be the very first to see our thrilling mainstage productions, live at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. Get an inside look at our current production at these informative talks given by Artistic Director John Hoomes. Anyone with an opera ticket can enjoy! Talks begin 1 hour before each show, in the theatre. - Educator Programs. Support for teachers teaching opera: Nashville Opera offers workshops, newsletters, study guides, online resources, and even a free lending library. - In the Community. Nashville Opera offers tons of outreach programs for children, adults and families throughout Middle Tennessee. Opera Outtakes is a 45-minute introductory program of opera scenes and arias captures all the things that make opera so spectacular: drama, comedy, and of course, beautiful music! Nashville Opera's Education Director takes you on a fast paced ride through the history of opera peppered with fun facts, exciting backstage stories, and features a real-life singer or two! This program can be tailored to any topic that connects opera to literature, art, history, or language. - All About Voices.
