Willow Hall Academy
Admissions: The teaching methods are designed to accommodate individual learning styles. Our teachers are trained to teach techniques and strategies that will enhance the learning of all. The school is located on Carter's Creek Pike in Franklin (6.2 miles south of the Williamson County Administrative Complex). Applications are accepted at any time, and enrollment is continuous through the school year. For children who do not have a diagnosed learning difficulties, the criteria for admission is: - The child must have an average or above average intelligence. - Testing and/or recommendations must rule out behavior and/or emotional problems Parents should make an appointment to meet with the director in order to establish mutual goals and priorities for the child before an enrollment decision is made. Activities: Horseback Riding Program The riding program is a key part of Willow Hall Academy. The horses, like the dogs and cats, help teach students proper ways of interacting with animals. Like all other aspects of the school, riding is taught according to each individual's strengths and learning styles. This program has proven to greatly increase students' self-esteem. Riders, like all athletes, must be able to focus on doing many things at once, as well as learning and practicing proper techniques. Riding differs from most other individual and team sports in that the rider is not just working on their own skills, but on their partner, who is an animal. The program also offers a very unique experience to many children who otherwise may never have been exposed to horses or had a chance to learn to ride. Fabulous Friday Students at Willow Hall Academy look forward to Friday afternoons when they are rewarded for their hard work all week. . This time is considered “Fabulous Friday,” when they are allowed to do special activities and projects. Sometimes, 'Fabulous Friday” will be in conjunction with a Field Trip; other times, it is spent on campus. Fishing Willow Hall Academy is located on a farm south of Franklin. At the front of the property is a stocked pond, surrounded by Weeping Willows; a perfect place for fishing. Many students go fishing for their “Fabulous Friday” activity. On weekends, you will see former students visiting the campus to fish. The pond is also a great place to observe several other visitors, including Canada geese, great blue herons and a few snapping turtles, too! Hiking When the weather is nice, the students enjoy hiking around the Willow Hall property. It is especially fun to visit the stables. The school dogs usually accompany the students on the hikes.
