School Philosophy:
Shaping the lives of young people as God would have them to be is the basis for the existence of Knoxville Christian School. God's Word is the best source of information on how this can best be achieved. Behavioral change based on precepts taught in the Bible is a major goal of the school. It is recognized that respect for authority is a fundamental principle which must be learned. The student learns to respect God as the supreme authority on life and living. Jesus will be taught as God's Son who made salvation possible for fallen man. Obedience to His teachings will provide for a richer life here and eternal life hereafter.
Knoxville Christian School encourages excellence. A student is encouraged and challenged to develop his/her abilities to the fullest extent possible and use them for the glory of God and the good of his fellow man. Because man is understood to be created in the image of God, students are taught respect for every person regardless of his social, economic, ethnic and physical circumstances.
The academic requirements must enable a student to be successful in further educational pursuits which are in keeping with his abilities. Higher standards than the Tennessee State standards are the expectations of KCS.
To meet these academic and spiritual goals, Christians with proper credentials are employed to provide the necessary role models as various curricula related subjects are taught.
History of KCS:
Knoxville Christian School was founded by Paul and Nadine Shirley. This Godly couple started Knoxville Christian School in 1969. Ten years later in 1979 they donated the present school acreage and, since, have worked tirelessly and selflessly in contributing time, effort and financial resources to its growth and betterment. Their work, however, was not limited to only KCS, but they have expended much additional effort in the furtherance of the cause of Christ as they labored within the brotherhood.
Spiritual Life:
At Knoxville Christian School, a great emphasis is placed on the spiritual well-being of each student. All students at KCS have daily Bible classes and a daily chapel service. Students at KCS have grown to look forward to chapel every day. A regular week of chapel would consist of the following:
- A word of the week is selected for the chapel sermons
- A specific scripture is selected to give further insight to the word
- Different individuals, from KCS and the community are asked to speak on the particular word
- Typically on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of each week, Mr. Matt Amos or a guest speaker from the community is the presenter.
- On Wednesday, the girls and boys are in separate chapels. A male and a female student is selected to share their thoughts with their own group of peers
- Friday is also a favorite for the week. This is a combined chapel with the entire school together for a time of singing
- Visitors are always welcome to attend any KCS chapel service
