FSPA Artistic Director - Kaylee Cahoon - has performed and taught across four continents with world renowned dance companies and artists such as Nikolais and Louis, Janis Brenner and Dancers, and the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Kaylee has choreographed for television, music videos, musical productions, professional theater, industrials. Students of Kaylee's have gone on to dance in companies such as Tharp!, Boston Ballet, Tennessee Dance Theater, Core Movement Project, Yin Mei, Kansas City Ballet, and Nashville Ballet. Her students can also be found dancing on Broadway, television shows, cruise ships, and in theme parks and professional productions across the country.
Because every child will not make a career out of Dance, here are some of the advantages that every Student should expect to get from the school to enrich your perception of your environment; to stimulate your desire to learn and grow; to develop a sense of focus and self-discipline that can be used in every facet of life; to look to your classmates and peers for support and confidence rather than competition.
We offer Classes:
- Ballet classes stress anatomically-correct use of classical ballet technique, acknowledging the skeletal structure of each student in order to prevent injuries in the future. Pointe work is not a requirement at FSPA and many students continue their ballet training without it. Students that begin pointe work must be at least 12 years old, have approval from both an orthopedic doctor and our ballet faculty, and maintain a minimum of 2 ballet classes per week.
- Modern technique, improvisation, and composition are taught in the style of modern dance pioneer Mary Wigman. Students must take a weekly ballet class in addition to modern.
- Jazz. Class is structured with a center warm-up, across-floor skills, and center combination. Students will be given a variety of performance styles including classical jazz, hip hop, lyrical, modern jazz, and theater dance.
- Tap is presented as a musical instrument first, followed by technical skills and steps.
- Recreational Irish dance classes meet one time per week and begin with introductory soft shoe technique
- Creative Movement Classes focus on developing coordination, strength, and musicality, increasing flexibility, and encouraging creativity through structured games and exercises.
FSPA Dance Companies. FSPA has three pre-professional performance companies available for events, fairs, festivals, school lecture demonstrations, and public performances.
Dress Code:
Hair completely off face and secured up. No ponytails. Please bring all belongings into the classroom with you. We are not responsible for your belongings when you are in class. No distracting jewelry. No underwear worn under the tights. The tights are meant to take their place. Do not wear dance shoes outside. Please wear a cover up over leotards when coming and leaving dance.
